This ancient practice has been proven to provide a myriad of benefits for a wide range of health conditions, making it the ideal choice for individuals seeking personalized, natural healing. Read on to learn more about the incredible benefits of massage and how it can transform your life.

The Top 5 Benefits of Massage Therapy for Specific Health Conditions

1. Chronic Pain Relief

Massage therapy is a powerful tool for addressing chronic pain caused by conditions such as fibromyalgia, arthritis, and lower back pain. By applying targeted pressure to specific areas of the body, our skilled massage therapists at That’s the Rub can alleviate tension, reduce inflammation, and improve mobility. Say goodbye to painkillers and embrace the power of massage therapy for lasting relief.

2. Combat Anxiety and Depression

Dealing with anxiety and depression can be overwhelming, but massage therapy offers a natural way to improve mental health. Our massage therapists at That’s the Rub use techniques that promote relaxation and stimulate the release of endorphins, the body’s natural feel-good hormones. By incorporating massage therapy into your self-care routine, you’ll experience a significant improvement in mood, energy levels, and overall mental well-being.

3. Boost Immune System Function

Your immune system plays a crucial role in defending your body against illness and infections. Massage therapy has been shown to enhance immune system function by increasing the circulation of lymph, which carries infection-fighting white blood cells throughout the body. By regularly visiting That’s the Rub Massage Therapy Center, you’re investing in your long-term health, helping to keep illnesses at bay.

4. Improve Sleep Quality

A good night’s sleep is essential for overall health and well-being, but many people struggle with insomnia and other

sleep disorders. Massage therapy can be a game-changer for those seeking better sleep quality. The relaxing and stress-reducing effects of massage help to calm the nervous system, making it easier to fall asleep and stay asleep throughout the night. By incorporating regular massage sessions at That’s the Rub into your routine, you’ll be well on your way to experiencing more restful and rejuvenating sleep.

5. Enhance Athletic Performance

If you’re an athlete or fitness enthusiast, massage therapy can be an invaluable addition to your training regimen. Massage therapy can help to reduce muscle tension, increase flexibility, and improve range of motion, which are all essential for optimal athletic performance. Furthermore, massage can promote faster recovery from injuries and reduce the risk of future injuries. At That’s the Rub Massage Therapy Center, our skilled therapists can tailor your massage sessions to target specific muscle groups and address your unique athletic needs.

LISA SPEAKS! Happy 2018!

LISA SPEAKS! Happy 2018!

Lisa Keplinger, Founder, Visionary, and Executive Genius behind That's the Rub

Happy New Year!!!

Last year was a good year for That’s the Rub and we’re so happy YOU were a part of it. So many things happened that it’s hard to keep track, so I won’t be like that aunt that recounts all her blessings in one end of the year letter to all (though that is something to aspire to, I suppose). Just know that we at That’s the Rub appreciate all of our patrons and we want to help you with your goals for 2018 and beyond. Being a major goal setter myself, I understand how daunting it can be to just get started and that it takes support, patience, love and a kick in the pants sometimes to ensure that we reach our goals. Sometimes that type of support needs to come from outside sources, not just within ourselves in order to achieve our goals. We at That’s the Rub want to be there for you.
Setting challenging goals is hard, but it’s made more challenging than it needs to be when we’re stressed, overwhelmed, or feeling distracted because of our skin, our largest, most protective organ, is so chapped and dry from the cold and wind (both of which we have plenty of this year). Don’t let your skin slow you down on your way to reaching your goals. Take care of your skin, so your skin can take care of you.
I know, you’re thinking “I don’t even know where to begin.” All of the marketing is so overwhelming it can be hard to know where to start. Make a plan to take better care of your skin. Start by contacting a local company specializing in skin care (That’s the Rub recently launched it’s own brand THAT: for example…pick me! pick me!) and ask them about their skin care options and how taking better of your skin will help you in more ways than just your skin. You should be prepared for the responses though, we’re very passionate about our skin care and in our enthusiasm to share we may get carried away.
That’s the Rub launched THAT:face our own Age Defy Facial and skin care line November 2017. We did it for several reasons:

  1. We’ve been talking about developing our own line for years, but we couldn’t find the right herbalist to help us do that. We’re very picky (Jim says “snobby”), they had to be local, amazingly knowledgeable, enthusiastic about our vision of  what we wanted and needed in a skin care, and able to source the highest possible therapeutic grade herbs and essential oils that we could get our hands on — I admit, this is mainly because I don’t want to put crap and chemicals in or on my body, and I can tell when it’s there because my skin immediately reacts to things that have it.
  2. I wanted the Age Defy skincare for me. I’m going on 47 years this month, last summer I noticed that my forehead (my poor frontalis) was getting a very prominent wrinkle in it and my neck too (from weight gains throughout the years most likely), but just because I know why they are there, doesn’t mean I have to stand by and let them remain! I decided I needed to do something about it.  So we found a phenomenal local herbalist and started making our own products. I’ve been using them exclusively since October and my skin has never felt or looked better. My pores have been minimized and so have my breakouts around highly hormonal times, my wrinkles have been diminished, and I feel hydrated (NOT an easy accomplishment with the weather being up and down as much as it has been lately).

I love our THAT:face line so much, we’re developing it for the body as well, because really, we have skin everywhere NOT just on our face (really, it’s true!). Therefore, we have also launched THAT:body massage oils: herbal infused, with therapeutic grade essential oils, small-batch, and hand-crafted — they feel and smell amazing. And there is MORE TO COME! So if you’re looking for taking better care of you in 2018, let us help you with skin care and body care (of course we still have our amazing massages!) and awareness of all that your body can feel and do for you, when it gets a little extra love and attention.
We look forward to assisting you in 2018 in reaching your goals, whether it’s at That’s the Rub Downtown or at Iron Pit Gym (limited service menu) in our brand new Sports Massage Clinic (see below for more info on that!), That’s the Rub is here for you.

Happy New Year!

Yours in Health,
Lisa

FARMHOUSE FRESH is Now at That’s the Rub!
MOO!

Every now and again, it’s important to listen to your children. This is radical talk, I know, but bear with me. A few months ago, right after we opened The Body Boutique, my daughter Cassandra was visiting from LSU (Why isn’t she a Hoosier? I don’t know…but I try to suffer it with dignity and grace). Cassandra really enjoyed the shop, and of course, the massages, but when I asked her about the body products we carry she said “they’re fine, but I’d never buy them…they don’t have any scent. I want them to smell good!

Well, I’m not quite as dense as I look, so I immediately got to searching for a GREAT smelling product that meets our excruciatingly high standards of being natural, gluten-free, vegan, and a host of other minutia that we’re meticulous about. Thanks Cassandra, GREAT IDEA!

BEHOLD,
FarmHouse Fresh!

Why not mush-up vitamin rich, live strawberry fruit cells with whipped sweet cream shea butter? The result is Strawberry Smash – a 2-part Moisturizer sold with a mixing stick that makes lotioning-up as enjoyable as morning coffee. It also leaves skin dewy-soft, and can calm a mean sunburn in just a few seconds.

From charming jelly jar toppers, to delicate glass pour-spout cruets, each product is lovingly crafted and packaged for that special someone who will enjoy it!

In 2009, we won the Dallas Beauty Award presented by D Magazine in Dallas. You can read the full article here: DBeauty-FarmHouse Fresh Since then our products continue to win consumer awards including Redbook’s Most Valuable Beauty Product, Daily Candy’s Best of Beauty, Oprah’s O-List, Elle Canada Hot List, and more.

Over the last 3 years (2012, ’13 & ’14), we have been voted by spas, hotels and resorts as one of the Top 5 Favorite Bodycare Lines in the US, as published in American Spa Magazine. And this year we have been voted Top 5 Favorite All Natural Lines. Additionally, our dear favorite Shea butter Whoopie! Cream was voted by spas, hotels and resorts as the Favorite Body Lotion, as published in LNE Magazine.

Interview with Massage Therapist and Owner Lisa Keplinger

Interview with Massage Therapist and Owner Lisa Keplinger

Lisa Keplinger, Owner of That's the Rub

As you may or may not know, That’s the Rub is the dream and brainchild of massage therapist extraordinaire, corporate spa consultant, and all-around fantastic individual Lisa Keplinger. Every now and again, someone out in the big, wide world recognizes what an amazing entrepreneur she is and calls for an interview about her story, and her ideas about the future of massage therapy (for the record, she’s got a lot). Today we’re delighted to share with you the most recent one done by a leading massage industry education magazine.

1. Tell us a bit more about you and your practice as it is today? i.e. are you a solo practitioner or a business owner? If solo, what kind of an establishment do you work for, how large is it, what is the clientele like, what is the specialty offered? If it is a business that you own, kindly include the same time of relevant information that will give the reader a good idea about your establishment/practice. Please also include where you live and work?

I’m a business owner and a solo practitioner among many. The business is That’s the Rub Massage Therapy Center. We have five treatment rooms, eight massage therapists, a Tarot reader and an acupuncturist, we also have three front desk staff and a wonderful marketing manager.

Our clientele varies. We are a college town (Bloomington, IN) so we work with a lot of professors and students alike. There are also many businesses around us because we’re downtown that a lot of people from the surrounding businesses also come to see us.

Our specialty is our Therapeutic Rub. It’s focused on exactly what their problem areas are, then we pick them apart and put them back together again with an integrative deep tissue, myofascial and massage to name just a few of the modalities that most of us do. Then we all also have our individual specialties that come into play.

We consider ourselves family and is a family owned business. My husband/business partner and I established That’s the Rub Massage Therapy Center in March of 2010, we’re about to celebrate our four year anniversary. Each therapist is an independent contractor and is responsible for their own schedule/communication with our front desk staff to keep things running smooth and in an orderly fashion.

2. Tell us why you chose to go into massage and at what point in your life did you decide to do so? What were you doing at the time? Where did you first hear about the massage career? What factors influenced your decision? What were you looking to get out of this decision? CONTINUE READING
