Pregnancy changes everything about how your body carries load — your center of gravity shifts, your hips widen, your lower back works overtime, and sleep becomes an obstacle course. The Pregnancy Rub is TTR's prenatal massage: a purpose-built session for the specific demands pregnancy places on your body, trimester by trimester.
What Is the Pregnancy Rub?
The Pregnancy Rub is That's The Rub's prenatal massage, offered from the second trimester through delivery. Using side-lying positioning with proper bolstering, your therapist works the areas that carry the most strain during pregnancy: lower back, hips, glutes, shoulders, and legs. Every TTR therapist is trained in the KI Process™ through The Keplinger Institute, which means your session is structured, intentional, and safe for pregnancy.
What to Expect During Your Session
Prenatal massage at TTR is done in side-lying position — no face-down table cutouts, which can create spinal stress. We use supportive pillows and bolsters to keep you comfortable while your therapist works effectively. Pressure is adjusted to your current stage of pregnancy, your comfort level, and what your body needs that day. Sessions are calm, unhurried, and fully adapted to where you are in your pregnancy.
When to Book (and When to Check with Your Provider First)
The Pregnancy Rub is available starting in the second trimester. We recommend checking with your OB or midwife before booking if you have a high-risk pregnancy, preeclampsia, placenta previa, or blood clot concerns. For low-risk pregnancies, regular prenatal massage is well-supported as a complementary therapy for back pain, sleep, swelling, and stress.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is prenatal massage safe?
Yes, for most low-risk pregnancies starting in the second trimester. Research supports prenatal massage for reducing cortisol, improving sleep, and relieving musculoskeletal pain. If your pregnancy is high-risk, get clearance from your provider before booking.
Can I get massage in the first trimester?
TTR offers prenatal massage starting in the second trimester (after week 13). The first trimester carries elevated miscarriage risk, and most licensed therapists — including ours — follow the standard practice of waiting until the second trimester.
What positions are used during the session?
Side-lying with bolster support. We do not use a face-cradle cutout table for prenatal work — that position can stress the round ligaments and sacroiliac joints. Side-lying allows safe, effective access to the areas that need the most work.
How often should I get prenatal massage?
Once or twice a month works well for most clients, with more frequency in the third trimester when discomfort peaks. Your therapist can help you build a schedule that makes sense for your stage of pregnancy and your budget.
Do you offer postnatal massage too?
Yes. Postnatal massage is a natural follow-on after delivery — addressing the new load patterns of nursing, carrying, and sleep deprivation. Book a standard session and let your therapist know you're postpartum so they can adapt accordingly.
