Endings, Origins, and Beginnings: Introducing the Keplinger Institute of Massage & Wellness (KI)
This story begins on a somber note: my father passed away recently -- and to be candid, some might say he died when he retired. He was a very passionate cook his entire life and it’s all he loved to do. Shortly after he retired he had a stroke and his health, slowly...
That’s the Rub’s COVID-19 Precautions [UPDATED May 21, 2021]
MAY 21, 2021 UPDATE: Yup! We're almost back to normalcy. Almost. Group classes have started again (YOU should come!) and we also offer facials, couple's services, and more. But masks are still required until the medical board (who we fall under as massage therapy)...
2020 is Off and Running: The New Year’s Here Blog
Hello there and Happy New Year Rub Family! Now, I know and you know it’s been a long time since I’ve posted a blog and I’m really sorry about that, it’s just we’ve had so much going on that it’s been a real challenge just to sit at the computer, let alone write and...
Impossible is Nothing: The Lessons of Aunt Fran and The GOAT
“Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they’ve been given, than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It’s an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It’s a dare. Impossible...
Eating Windows: What Are You Two Doing?!? Part 1
Hi there, welcome back…to both of us! To say that it’s been a while since I’ve blogged is putting it mildly. It’s not that I have nothing to say, rather, I’ve been in one of those situations where I have SO much to say, that I have NO idea where to begin. Let’s start...
Happy New Year! (The 2019 Edition!)
I know that your email boxes are getting slammed right now from New Year well wishes to coupons, sales and other well wishers and in that I guess I’m no different. However, I do have to state that like so many others it is true, we wouldn’t have a business it weren’t for all of you who read this. So for that I thank you. Thank you for being our clients and helping us help you in reaching your health care goals. It truly is a privilege to do massage and bodywork and to help you reach your goals.
Why I Stopped Wearing Over-the-Ear Headphones
I’ve used headphones for my music long before blue tooth was a thing and I detested the earbuds because I felt that they hurt the inside of my ear. However, after several pairs of over the ear headphones trying to get something less “squeezy” on my head, I found no matter how gentle they seemed it still caused Temporal tension, jaw pain and neck tension.
Taking My Own Medicine: My Experiences with CBD Massage
The efficacy of CBD massage post-motor vehicle accident. How I found out the hard way how good it is! I’ve had the pleasure of getting the CBD massage on separate occasions from two different That’s the Rub therapists, once to try out how it feels (duh!) and the other CBD massage after my recent car accident. It was interesting how they were the same…only different.
Beginings: Old and New
VERY Early Sidewalk Sign (circa 2012) We used to start every day by hanging a new “Rub” on the door: a quote by a famous person to inspire thought, allow us to embrace gratitude, or to just have a good laugh on the way in and out our door. It was kind of our way at...
Embrace the Change
Why do we just expect our bodies to keep going? Our body needs to be cared for, nurtured, strengthened, stretched, and fed properly. We wouldn’t expect a car to just keep going with no gas, oil changes, or regular maintenance, eventually, the car says “I’m not going anywhere.” Therefore, you must take care of it or get another car. Meanwhile, we complain about what a piece of crap it is, not taking responsibility for the fact that if we’d been doing proper maintenance we wouldn’t be facing the issues with our car. Well, our bodies are the same, they need regular, consistent maintenance, but unlike a car, you can’t turn it in for a younger version. So, it’s better to take care of it, you’ve heard the saying, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. It’s time to take responsibility for your body maintenance and give it the attention that it deserves.
How to Choose the Right Massage Therapist for You – Part 3
Each visit you make the therapist you prefer, the therapist may (and likely will) use different massage types and applied styles to change up the massage. However, after multiple treatments sometimes things stop working or you’re no longer getting the results you’re...
How to Choose the Right Massage Therapist for You – Part 2
This might be a surprise to you or maybe not, but all massage therapists are not created equal, not all massages are the same, any more than all bodies are the same. I bring this up because it occurred to me that the major reason people may not like to try another...
How to Choose the Right Massage Therapist for You – Part 1
I don’t know how many of you know what goes into hiring of a That’s the Rub massage therapist. It occurred to me that in case you were sitting on the fence about how to choose your massage therapist above and beyond our biographies that it might give you great...
Wrestling with Nutrition through Mindfulness
I’ve been working on the ongoing practice of mindfulness for years now, since I started as a Spa Director in 2004. Mindfulness is something to be honed daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, etc. until it becomes a part of who you are. Being mindful is about presence in the...
